Improvement 01: Look after our Newcastle
A group of 5-12 year olds met at the Nunsmoor Centre’s summer play scheme. They named their proposed improvement ‘Look after our Newcastle’ after experiencing chewing gum on the pavements, rubbish and papers in the streets and overflowing bins.

The group agreed that litter bins should be more brightly coloured and designed to look good, glowing in the dark for visibility at night and be regularly emptied and cleaned. Children would learn to use bins and then keep on using them as they grow up. As a result the city will be cleaner.
The children drew their ideas on colourful banners including a rubbish eating monster which they want to appear on bins with the message ‘feed me with your rubbish and look after our Newcastle’.
