Improvement 01: Look after our Newcastle

Progress Update

This improvement has been moved forward by Sue Shaw, Newcastle City Council’s Neighbourhood Response Manager and Dawn Brown, Newcastle City Council’s Community Engagement and Empowerment Service working with Nunsmoor Centre staff.

Seven of the children’s bin designs have been selected and they will be printed onto a hard wearing material and put on bins in the Elswick and Wingrove areas of Newcastle.

Approximately 70 bins will feature the children’s designs.

Once the designs are ready, the children will help workers to display the designs on the bins.

At the Newcastle Citizens Assembly Feedback Event held on 22/03/10 members of Deaflink offered to help the children and workers get the designs onto the bins.

The event will be covered by the media.

Rubbish weight will be monitored over a 3 month period to assess whether there has been an increase in usage.

This is a pilot project; if it proves successful it may be rolled out to other wards in the city.
