Improvement 13: Keep cleaner, be greener

Outer West Area Forum includes representatives of groups in Denton, Lemington, Newburn, Westerhope and Woolsington. The forum seeks to influence decisions and acts as a collective voice for these five outer west wards. Members discuss issues of common concern and exchange information on activities, services and events.

Their proposed improvement aims to create cleaner neighbourhoods through greater recycling. Ideas include linking up with Science City to research options for recycling leaves and grass cuttings. They feel this would help avoid slipping hazards and generate income through the sale of compost etc.

Recycling of abandoned furniture and white goods is also proposed, linked to a training project for people who are unemployed to develop skills in refurbishing these items which could be purchased at a much lower cost than new ones by families on low incomes. In this way, furniture and white goods going to the tip would be reduced and the city’s streets would become cleaner.
