Improvement 02: Develop opportunties for shared family learning clubs at existing local facilities
Progress Update
A meeting with Louise Borrell, Newcastle City Council’s Family Learning Coordinator took place to discuss the improvement and a member of her team attended the Feedback Event on 22/03/10 to explain family learning priorities across the city.
During discussions at the Feedback Event on 22/03/10 the group agreed that more information on what activities are available and whether existing buildings can be utilised by the community for family learning were still important improvements for Newcastle. They also felt that there needed to be more support available for people who are interested in setting up a group.
The group have had an initial meeting with Glen Pendleton, Newcastle City Council’s Community Assets Coordinator, to discuss their improvement.
The group have also been in touch with Planning Aid to get information and support
A meeting has taken place between Helen Wilding, Newcastle Partnership’s Wellbeing and Health Coordinator and Lucy Thomson, Newcastle Citizens Assembly to discuss holding a ‘Spotlight Event’ on informal learning, activities and places where people meet. The event would bring a range of decision makers together towards the end of 2010 to look at this particular issue. More information about this event will follow soon.
