Improvement 04: Develop more culturally appropriate activities for older women

The Mahila Mandel Women’s Group meets weekly at the Roshnie Centre to socialise and take part in activities. Aged from 60 to over 80, the women travel from across the city to meet together. They form friendships and bring along food they have cooked to share and enjoy.

Although the women live in extended families, they feel there is a need for more opportunities to socialise with women of their own age so that they can support each other, listening to any problems or troubles as well as sharing sorrows and joys. In this way they would form friendships and support networks and be able to counsel each other.

The women’s group would also like the opportunity to do different activities in venues where they will feel comfortable.
