Improvement 04: Develop more culturally appropriate activities for older women

Progress Update

Quality of Life Partnership (QoLP) facilitated a workshop on Friday 11 June 2010.

As a result of events, such as the Citizens Assembly Event, QoLP are becoming increasingly aware of the need to look into how they are providing informal opportunities for BME elders to come together to take part in a range of activities.

The workshop explored:

a)                 What activities are currently being provided?  Where? By whom?  What capacity do these services have to take new people or to combine with other existing activities?

b)                 Do we need culturally-specific activities for BME elders?   If so, what are the gaps?

c)                  What can we do to make mainstream activity more welcoming and accessible?

The workshop provided an opportunity to review practice and provision, and also to draw up ideas and recommendations which can be taken up through the Citizens Assembly and the Wellbeing and Health Partnership.
