Progress Update
Research carried out by the Elders Council showed:

More public toilets are needed in Newcastle

Existing toilets need to be better publicised

The NE1 Scheme needs to be used

Current toilets are often locked or vandalised

Shops that open their toilets to the public will increase their custom

Daytime opening of toilets is ok

Night time opening is very limited but needed

People do not go out at night because there are no toilets available

People misuse public space at night because there are no toilets available
Next Steps:

Seek a sponsor for the scheme

Approach NE1 for more support

NE1 and the Elders Council will work on increasing daytime access

The Night Time Operations Manager with Pubwatch will be approached for support

The campaign will start with the people who responded positively to initial discussions with NE1 and the Elders Council
