Improvement 11: People not drinking alcohol in public places where children play
Children aged 5-13 years old attend Cruddas Park After School Club on four evenings each week to do a range of activities. They developed their proposal for an improvement from a discussion about things they liked and didn’t like, working hard together as a group to create drawings to show their ideas.

The children are concerned that people drinking alcohol and getting drunk in public places creates fear and deters adults and children from using local parks.
They were aware of the 2 month ‘safer summer streets’ campaign in the West End which stopped shops from selling cheap alcohol to under-age young people as well as fining adults who were buying it for them. The group felt that this had achieved results and should be extended year round and city-wide. They also felt that it would help if older kids had something to do.
